Our History

1946

George Melling Sr and Ben operated a tool shop in Jackson, MI after WWII.

Auto parts were not readily available at the time and they saw an opportunity to provide high quality oil pumps. They designed and manufactured the M-10 oil pump for the 1937 Chevrolet 6-cylinder engine using high quality standards and attention to detail that the aftermarket industry had not seen before.

The M-10 worked well but now they needed customers. They developed Melling’s first mailing list using various Yellow Pages collected during numerous business trips and family vacations. As time passed they added more oil pumps to the line and sales grew.

1948

Melling issued the first catalog with 14 parts.

1952

Melling introduced the first aftermarket high volume oil pump, the M-15 for the Ford Flat Head V-8 engine.

The M-15 provided more oil flow for high mileage engines with low oil pressure. In addition, the M-15 also worked well for customers who were hot rodding their Ford V-8’s with new aftermarket engine parts to make more horsepower than a stock engine.

The M-15 was introduced in Melling’s first performance catalog which was titled “Equipment for Increased Power and Speed. The catalog also provided information on Melling’s 6 new Special Camshafts, Tappets, and Oil Pump Drive Gear for the 1932-1952 Ford V-8 engines.

The Melling line consisted of 20 oil pumps and 15 repair kits.
