Oil Pumps

High pressure oil pumps increase the pressure required to activate the pressure relief valve.  To accomplish this a stronger pressure relief spring is utilized which delays the opening of the pressure relief valve.  This change to the pressure relief spring increases the performance of the oil pump at higher engine speeds.  It does not affect the pump’s performance at low engine speeds.  High performance engines that operate at higher engine speeds than stock will utilize a high-pressure oil pump. 

A new Melling pick-up tube/oil screen assembly provides the lubrication oil as well as protection for your oil pump from materials that find their way into the engine oil supply system. Contaminants enter your oil system via engine wear, extended time between oil changes and other internal engine sources. These contaminants can interfere with the proper oil flow and pressure spring functions resulting in engine damage and/or failure. Melling offers a replacement oil pump drive gear for several Jeep and GM applications. This gear should be replaced should the original gear show wear or be damaged or lost during the rebuilding process.

The Melling gear thrust plate kit provides a new wearing surface for Buick oil pump kits. The Melling kit typically includes a cast iron thrust place, mounting gasket, the correct length screws plus a detailed instruction sheet. Oil pumps which are driven by the camshaft utilize an intermediate shaft.  It is recommended that a new Melling intermediate shaft be installed with every new oil pump.  Melling offers a complete line of high-quality intermediate shafts.

Some intermediate shafts require the use of a guide to attach the oil pump drive shaft to the intermediate shaft.  Melling recommends installing a new shaft guide with every new pump.  If the application requires a high volume or performance oil pump, then a steel shaft guide is recommended over the stock replacement guide which is made from nylon.
